As Beetles lay eggs with a ovipositor (a long tubelike thing they use to lay eggs safely in nature) that is nearly the length of their body when extended they need places they can extend there ovipositor into to deposit their eggs.
A great thing to use is cut up and stuck together cardboard with glue or a elastic band.
